One lane of the eastbound Interstate 40 in Orange County is set to be closed overnight on Thursday.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation shared a release Wednesday alerting motorists about the lane closure. The right lane of the interstate from New Hope Church Road on Exit 263 to U.S. 15-501 on Exit 270 is set close from 8 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.
According to the department, the lane reduction will be used for contract crews to safely perform concrete pavement testing. It is part of an ongoing project to study for widening the interstate to six lanes in the future.
Urging caution, NCDOT said Wednesday drivers along Interstate 40 Thursday night should anticipate the lane closure, slow their speeds along the stretch of road and be mindful of the crews working near the travel lanes.
More major roadway projects North Carolina is completing or planning can be found on the Department of Transportation’s website.
