A gas leak near downtown Chapel Hill closed a portion of Franklin Street Tuesday morning.
An alert sent by the Chapel Hill Police Department shortly before 11 a.m. said the westbound stretch of Franklin Street from Park Place to Hillsborough Street would be closed as emergency crews respond to a gas leak.

Shortly after, the police department said the leak had been stopped and traffic patterns on East Franklin Street would be returning to normal.
