A water main break on a main Hillsborough street will affect traffic patterns for several days, according to the town government.
The Town of Hillsborough shared a release Friday saying crews are working to fix a leaking water main on the east side of South Churton Street near the Autorific Car Wash. While no businesses or residences are connected to the main and are having their service affected, traffic on the road will be affected through Friday afternoon and into next week.
While the repairs will damage the street, Hillsborough said a lane shift during active work will be implemented. Northbound vehicles will use the left turn lane for Mayo Street to travel during the closure, which could cause traffic to back up and cause delays. The town urged motorists to be aware of the work zone and to be cautious of the nearby workers.

The town said there’s a chance repairs could last until Wednesday, December 16.
In its release, Hillsborough advised residents to monitor for water line breaks, frozen meters or other water-related emergencies as the temperature gets colder through the winter. Residents who experience an emergency are encouraged to contact the town’s Water Treatment Plant by calling 919-732-3621.
