As Google Fiber continues to install and lay fiber optic cables underneath the streets of Carrboro, one popular intersection will see lane closures this weekend.
From Saturday, November 14 through Sunday, November 15, contractors for Google Fiber will be laying cables near Estes Drive and North Greensboro Street. The intersection, which already has a altered traffic pattern from the ongoing construction of a roundabout, will have a flashing traffic signal and lanes will temporarily be closed.
The Town of Carrboro said in a release on Friday motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians alike should expect delays possible delays if traveling through the area over the weekend. The town also advised everyone to travel with caution and be mindful around the construction.
Google Fiber has been conducting such fiber optic cable work since late 2019, halting several times due to issues striking gas pipes and the COVID-19 pandemic. Construction on the high-speed internet service began again in April and has since gone uninterrupted since April.
