Chapel Hill crews will close lanes of Franklin Street on Tuesday to work on a large tree overhanging the roadway that has become hazardous.
Officials said the town “needs to reduce the stress on a large willow oak limb” over the area of 219 East Franklin Street. To complete that work, crews will close both center lanes – one in each direction – for several hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The closure will impact traffic between Henderson and Hillsborough Streets.
The town has been working on tree maintenance along Franklin Street at an increased rate as many of the town-owned trees are coming to the end of their lives and becoming hazards. Several large trees have been removed along the roadway over the last two years.
