****UPDATE: Officials said the interstate was reopened just before 10 a.m.****
Delays are building Tuesday morning after a crash closed one of two eastbound lanes of I-40 in Orange County.
The wreck occurred west of the Old NC 86 interchange at exit 261 and was reported by North Carolina Department of Transportation officials just after 8:45 a.m.
Delays were starting around Old NC 86 as of 9:10 Tuesday morning and stretched back to near the split with I-85/I-40.
There is no word on the severity of the crash at this time.
An initial estimate from the DOT said it could be close to 11 o’clock before traffic flow is fully restored.
