A stretch of Lawrence Road is closed as emergency responders and Duke Energy respond to a fallen tree on Monday afternoon, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The office shared an alert on its Facebook page warning drivers to avoid the part of street between Highway 70 and Highway 70A, which is near the Occoneechee Golf Club, as parts of the road will be closed through the evening. The sheriff’s office said the tree fell onto a passing car in the road and injured its occupants, whom the emergency responders are helping. Additionally, traffic lights are out as part of a broader power outage caused by the tree around 3:18 p.m.
According to Duke Energy, around 1,200 customers did not have power at 4:50 p.m. stemming from the outage. Estimated time of restoration is 7:30 p.m. Current outage numbers and wait times can be found on Duke Energy’s website.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office encouraged road users to find an alternate route while cleanup is conducted through Monday evening.
This is a developing story.
