One of the few north-south roads on UNC’s campus is expected to be closed for much of this week, as the Orange Water and Sewer Authority works on emergency sewer repairs.

The university’s Transportation and Parking Department shared an alert with campus community members, saying Raleigh Street will be closed starting on Monday. The road, which runs between much of UNC’s mid and north campus buildings, will be closed to through traffic between Lenoir Drive and the crosswalk south of the nearby Davis Library. Additionally, the ATM Drive parking lot and western sidewalk of Raleigh Street will be closed during the road work.

OWASA’s work on the project will take place Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. through 6:30 p.m., according to UNC, and the two phases of repair are expected to take a combined two weeks to complete.

Phase 2, meanwhile, will move the local sewer agency’s work further south on Raleigh Street — but will re-open the street to some vehicle traffic. UNC described the second phase as being between South Road and the Davis Library crosswalk. The southbound lane of the road will be open, but the eastern sidewalk near Winston Residence Hall and Connor Residence Hall will be closed to pedestrians.

Chapel Hill Transit shared Sunday that all of its routes will travel along Country Club Road during the OWASA project and road closure, with its bus stops in the work zone being closed as well. The transit system specifically highlighted its U, RU, and NU routes being detoured from Raleigh Street during the project.

UNC also alerted students that the Point-to-Point (P2P) Express and Baity Hill Shuttle routes will detour along Country Club Road for the duration of the project.
