Road work is underway at the Glen Lennox Redevelopment Project and contractors will be working along U.S. Highway 15-501 in the coming days.
The work along Fordham Boulevard is expected to last a couple of days, according to a release from the Town of Chapel Hill.
Work will include the removal of trees at the new U-turn and new pedestrian crossings. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has requested the trees be removed to open site distances and view corridors for proper vehicle signalization and pedestrian safety.
Grubb Properties — the developer of the project – is working with urban design firm Copenhagenize to design bike and pedestrian improvements along Fordham Boulevard and throughout the redesigned Glen Lennox community.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-February, with construction of residential buildings anticipated to wrap up by the end of February or early March. The Gwendolyn, a four-story office building as part of the redevelopment in the historic Glen Lennox community, completed construction earlier this month.
In addition to more than 200 new apartments and office space, the developers are also adding a parking deck, retail space and a clubhouse to the neighborhood.
