Repairs to a water main will close a lane of West Cameron Avenue for hours on Monday, according to the Orange Water and Sewer Authority.

A release from the service agency early Monday morning alerted Chapel Hill motorists of the closure to the road’s eastbound lane, which is being done for “critical water main repairs.” OWASA indicated the closure is in front of the Carolina Inn and will be closed to traffic for approximately five to six hours during the day.

Eastbound traffic on West Cameron Avenue will be detoured using Pittsboro Street and McCauley Street, according to Monday’s release.

OWASA has been working in the area of West Cameron Avenue and South Columbia Street since early July, as the service agency installs a new water line. The project’s expected completion date is slated for August 1, before UNC students arrive in Chapel Hill for the fall semester. Monday’s release did not indicate whether the repairs are being done are part of the same project.

Updates on Monday’s lane closure can be found on the OWASA website.
