Chapel Hill motorists on East Franklin Street experienced delays Tuesday morning following a medical incident.
Members of Chapel Hill Fire and Police Department, as well as EMS teams, responded to an incident at the intersection of East Franklin Street and Estes Drive around 10 a.m. They provided medical attention to a person who was laying in the street. A spokesperson from the Chapel Hill Police Department said an officer was driving in the area and saw the person in the street. They then pulled over and began to give them medical attention.
The emergency service vehicles redirected traffic around one lane of eastbound Franklin Street as EMS workers loaded the person onto a stretcher and into an ambulance.

The ambulance then took the person laying on the street to the hospital.
The area around Estes Drive has been the scene of several accidents over the past few years, including some vehicle collisions with pedestrians. In September 2019, a driver was charged with failure to yield after he struck a pedestrian on a crosswalk. In 2013, a woman was killed after she was hit by a car near the intersection of Fordham Boulevard and South Estes Drive.
