****UPDATE: All northbound lanes of I-85 are now open.****
I-85 northbound is closed Thursday after a wreck during the aftermath of a major winter storm.
The interstate is closed just past the NC-86 exit near mile mark 168. One lane was reopened for a short time Thursday morning before the road was closed once again.
North Carolina Department of Transportation officials reported the closure just after 8 a.m. Thursday causing major delays. Roadways throughout central North Carolina are treacherous after a winter storm dumped 10-12 inches of snow in portions of Orange County.
The DOT is estimating it could be 1 p.m. before the road is cleared.
Orange and Chatham counties have declared States of Emergency due to hazardous conditions in the aftermath of the winter storm.
