Blasting work will take place near Interstate 40 in Hillsborough around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.
The on-ramp from Old North Carolina Highway 86 to I-40 West will be closed during the blast time, which is estimated to be about two to five minutes. Due to the time of night, the contractor will take steps to reduce the noise of the blasts.
The blasting work is for utility installation for the Research Triangle Logistics Park and is unrelated to the highway widening project happening elsewhere in the county. The 162-acre logistics park project is part of an economic development project between the Town of Hillsborough and Orange County and includes space located at 157 Diversity Drive. When completed, the park will encompass five buildings and an estimated 2.4 million square feet of space. More information about the project can be found here.
Blasting work on the project began on March 18. The Research Triangle Logistics Park sits in Orange County’s zoning jurisdiction and the Board of County Commissioners approved the project 6-1 in October 2020.
