Events around the Orange County community are expected to cause road delays in the towns of Hillsborough and Carrboro.
In Hillsborough, a pair of cycling events on October 4 and 7 will pass through the town. On Wednesday, October 4, the 24th annual North Carolina Mountains to Coast bicycle tour will leave Mebane that morning and pass through downtown Hillsborough between 7:45 and 10 a.m. Streets expected to be affected are Calvin Street, Dimmocks Mill Road, King Street and St. Mary’s Road.
According to a release from the town government, cyclists will not ride in one large group but rather ride leisurely and spread out among many miles. The tour is scheduled to make a rest stop at Eno River Farms. For more information on the tour, click here.
The following Saturday, October 7, the Carolina Tarwheels BikeFest will take place downtown. Cyclists will start rides in small groups between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. and ride through rural Orange and adjacent counties. The group is expected to return to downtown Hillsborough around 4 p.m.
The ride will start at the intersection of East Margaret Lane and South Cameron Street, and a police officer will intermittently stop traffic at the intersection of Margaret and Churton Street as the groups begin. Other streets along the route are South Occoneechee Street, Calvin Street, South Nash Street, Eno Street, Dimmocks Mill Road and St. Mary’s Road. For more information on the ride, click here.
In Carrboro, a 10K road race is scheduled for 8 a.m. on the morning of October 7. The race will begin in front of McDougle Middle School, wind through downtown and finish on the school’s track. Delays are expected on North Greensboro Street and Hillsborough Road.
The 10K is the second of three races in the Le Tour de Carrboro series, sponsored by the Cardinal Track Club. For more information on the race, click here.
