UPDATE: This article was updated shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Duke Energy restored power to nearly 600 residents by 6 p.m. and the estimated time of restoration for other residents is 9 p.m.
A downed tree near N. Greensboro Street and Morningside Drive caused hundreds of power outages in Carrboro Thursday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., residents reported more than 700 power outages along North Greensboro Street, extending all the way down to West Main Street and up towards Waterside Drive.
The first power outage was reported at 1:38 p.m. Duke Energy initially said the estimated time of restoration is 6:45 p.m., with power largely being restored to the area south of North Greensboro Street before 6 p.m.
During repairs and removal of the tree, the Carrboro Police Department advised residents to avoid the area as crews worked to resolve the issue.
