Work to replace a water line will soon cause the closure of a left turn lane and the right shoulder of southbound Fordham Boulevard near Erwin Road.

The Orange Water and Sewer Authority recently shared a release with the Chapel Hill community, saying the closure is part of its ongoing Dobbins Drive water and sewer line replacement project. A left turning lane on northbound Fordham Boulevard will be blocked with cones to prevent turning onto the area near Erwin Road beginning next week. In addition, a concrete barrier has been installed along the right shoulder of Fordham Boulevard from the intersection with Erwin until the split of Fordham and East Franklin Street.

OWASA said these traffic control measures are being used to protect both the contractor and the public as they work to ensure reliable wastewater collection.

According to the release, the two traffic calming measures will be in place until the work is completed, which is expected to be in November.
