Complaints over visibility challenges from drivers have prompted state transportation officials to modify the intersection of Buckhorn Road and Bradshaw Quarry Road in Orange County.
North Carolina Department of Transportation crews were scheduled to be on the scene Tuesday to add stop signs and road markings in order to construct a 4-way stop at the intersection near the Alamance-Orange county line. Stops signs were previously in place on Buckhorn Road leading to Bradshaw Quarry Road.
The changes are being made following a state transportation authority investigation. Officials said no single event, such as a collision or accident, was the cause.
“Although there have not been a high volume of collisions, there have been enough reports of sight distance issues that we feel this proactive decision will help resolve the sight distance challenges and reduce future crashes,” NCDOT transportation supervisor William Bynum said in a release.
