After more than two months of being closed, South Greensboro Street in Carrboro is now scheduled to reopen this week.
The road work began on June 11 and was scheduled to be back open to traffic today. But Carrboro spokesperson Rachel Heggen said in an email that due to the recent rain the construction is now anticipated to be completed in time for the reopening on Friday.
The closure is to facilitate the installation of a roundabout intersection at South Greensboro Street, Old Pittsboro Road and Two Hills Drive. The roundabout is intended to improve safety, access and mobility.
A portion of South Greensboro Street was also closed for construction from March until June last year, which also was exacerbated by heavy rain delaying the timeline for completion.
Carrboro has embarked on a social media campaign and regular updates on the project this year in an attempt to encourage residents and visitors to continue visiting local businesses in the area, which have remained open during the construction.
