Eastbound lanes of I-40 are closed in Orange County as crews are battling a vehicle fire Tuesday.
A vehicle crash was reported by North Carolina Department of Transportation officials just before 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. Chapel Hill emergency crews described the incident as a “large vehicle fire.”
The lanes are closed at mile marker 263, near the exit for New Hope Church Road.
DOT officials are advising motorists to take a detour via Exit 261 for Old NC-86 and following that roadway to New Hope Church Road. Access to re-enter I-40 is available via New Hope Church Road.
Officials have not released any details regarding any injuries.
There is no timeline as to when the fire will be extinguished and the road reopened.
