Two individuals were killed in a wreck on I-85 northbound in Orange County early Wednesday afternoon.
Officials with the Highway Patrol confirmed the fatalities to WCHL just after 4 p.m. Wednesday. The crash was first reported by North Carolina Department of Transportation officials around 2:30 p.m. and involved one vehicle. But the wreck has shut down the right-hand lane of I-85 north for approximately two miles, beginning around mile marker 163.
Authorities said that the vehicle went off of the roadway and down an embankment due to the crash. Crews were working to retrieve the vehicle Wednesday afternoon. Law enforcement officials estimated the roadway would not be re-opened in the near future due to the investigation and cleanup from the wreck.
