Construction will close one lane in each direction of I-85 in Orange County beginning Wednesday.
Officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation say contract crews will close the right outside lanes of I-85 between Hillsborough and Durham. The crews will be replacing “aging signs” along the highway.
The right lane of I-85 north is first on the list and will be closed between mile markers 167 and 170 between nine o’clock Wednesday morning and 3:30 p.m.
Thursday, the right lane of I-85 southbound will be closed during the same time period between mile markers 163 and 166.
The right lane of I-85 north will be closed once again beginning at eight o’clock Thursday night and will reopen at approximately four o’clock Friday morning. The second northbound is between mile markers 163 and 165.
Transportation officials are encouraging motorists to take caution when driving through the area as crews will be working close to the continuing traffic.
A highway sign typically lasts between 10 and 12 years, according to the DOT.
