Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard is closed Thursday morning where the thoroughfare intersects with Hillsborough Street and Umstead Drive.
Officials say the closure is due to work being done to replace a transformer that was damaged overnight.
Duke Energy repair crews expect the intersection and surrounding areas to be closed for “several hours,” according to a release.
Drivers are being encouraged to avoid the area until further notice. Pedestrians are also being advised to attempt to avoid travelling in the area.
There is no timeline for expected completion of the work as of 9:30 Thursday morning.
